Accident insurance on transport for drivers
A transport accident insurance contract is a key element of protection for businesses that employ drivers or machine operators. It covers material losses related to health damage sustained by the insured person while on transport. For legal entities operating vehicles, this contract is mandatory, as regulated by Ukrainian legislation.
Specifically, the terms of this type of insurance are defined by the "Procedure and Conditions for Insurance in Road and Urban Electric Transport," approved by Order of the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine №671 dated July 22, 2024.
This contract is designed to insure the life and health of road transport drivers or urban electric transport machine operators who are permanent employees of enterprises, institutions, and organizations, regardless of ownership and management forms. It provides protection in case of injury and/or other consequences of an accident that occurred to the Insured person while performing official duties related to vehicle operation during a trip within the territory of the insurance contract.

What is insured?
Under this contract, the life, health, and working capacity of a road transport driver or urban electric transport machine operator are insured against accidents that may occur while performing their official duties.
Who can be the policyholder?
The policyholder for this type of contract can be any legal entity or individual entrepreneur (FOP) that uses vehicles in its business activities.
What can you insure against? (Insured risks)
The contract covers the following insured risks related to transport accidents:
- Death of the Insured Person: In case of the death of the Insured Person due to an accident that occurred during the performance of their employment duties.
- Permanent impairment of bodily functions (disability): Establishment of primary disability of Group I, II, or III due to an accident that occurred to the Insured Person during the performance of their employment duties. This coverage aims to compensate for limitations in vital activity.
- Temporary loss of working capacity: A case where the Insured Person temporarily loses working capacity due to an accident that occurred during the performance of their employment duties.
Insurance sum and contract cost
- Insurance Sum: For each Insured Person, the insurance sum is set at no less than 60 times the monthly minimum wage, as established by law on January 1 of the year the insurance contract is concluded. As of January 1, 2025, this amount is UAH 480,000.00.
- Cost of Insurance Contract: The maximum insurance tariff cannot exceed 0.1% to 5% of the insurance sum per Insured Person. The specific cost is determined individually, taking into account the specifics of the activity, the number of Insured Persons, and the chosen coverage conditions.
Territory and term of contract
- Territory of Contract Validity:
- Territory of Ukraine.
- Territory of Ukraine and other states within the transport route. The specific territory of validity is always stated in the Insurance Contract.
- Term of Insurance Contract: The contract is concluded for 1 (one) year.
- Insurance Period (Contract validity during the day): Coverage is valid only when the employee is performing official duties related to vehicle operation, for the duration of the trip.
Insurance payouts
In the event of an insured incident, the following insurance payouts are provided per Insured Person:
- In case of the death of the Insured Person: 100% of the insurance sum is paid.
- In case of permanent impairment of bodily functions (establishment of disability):
- For Group I disability – 100% of the insurance sum.
- For Group II disability – 80% of the insurance sum.
- For Group III disability – 60% of the insurance sum.
- In case of temporary loss of working capacity: Payment is made as a lump sum, calculated for each day of documented temporary incapacity for work of the Insured Person. The daily payout amount is 1/30 of the monthly minimum wage, as established by law. The total payout cannot exceed the payout for 120 days of such temporary incapacity.
